Belgrade has four distinct seasons: hot summers, cold winters and pleasant but changeable spring and autumn. Here is what to expect in each, with links to our detailed guides. Weather and events vary by year, so check forecasts and official event pages before you travel.
Winter (December to February)
Cold, often grey, with a chance of snow. Crowds are thin and the city is cosy, with indoor kafanas and museums at their best. December brings festive lighting and seasonal events. See Visiting Belgrade in December. Pack warm layers and waterproof shoes.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is changeable. March can still be cold and wet, then the city warms up and parks and terraces fill. It is often a good balance of comfort and fewer visitors. See Belgrade in March and packing tips for spring and autumn.
Summer (June to August)
Hot, lively and busy with outdoor life. River clubs (splavovi), open-air events and Ada Ciganlija are the draw. Midday heat can be intense, so plan sightseeing for mornings and evenings. See Belgrade’s summer scene, splavs and the summer and winter packing guide.
Autumn (September to November)
Mild days and a full cultural calendar make autumn a popular choice for travelers who dislike summer heat. November is cooler and quieter. See Belgrade in November.
Choosing when to go
- Nightlife and outdoor life: summer.
- Sightseeing comfort: late spring and early autumn.
- Quiet and lower prices: winter and early spring, though compare current rates.
